Killing of 11 soldiers in Benue by gunmen is a source of sadness to President Buhari - Defence minister

 Why President Buhari is Sad Now, Defence Minister Reveals 

 Bashir Magashi, the minister of defence, has revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari is sad over the recent killing of soldiers in Benue state.

  Magashi made this disclosure on Thursday, April 14, during his visit to Governor Samuel Ortom in Makurdi, the state capital, Daily Nigerian reports. 

The minister, according to The Nation, added that although the development affected the Nigerian Army negatively, the forces should not be discouraged and lose hope. 

His words: “The Nigerian Armed Forces is deeply saddened following the killing of 11 soldiers and a Captain in Konshisha LGA of Benue. “This will not discourage the Army from carrying out its duties of protecting lives and property in the country.

 “To boost the morale of the soldiers, perpetrators of the dastardly act must be apprehended and made to face the wrath of the law.” 

 Earlier, some soldiers were killed following an attack on military operatives on Saturday, April 10, in Damasak town, Borno state. 

The Nigerian Army spokesman Mohammed Yerima confirmed this in a statement on Sunday, April 11, which was shared on its Facebook page. 

This attack came amid rising security challenges facing the northeastern part of the country, masterminded by bandits and Boko Haram terrorists. 

 The deceased soldiers were killed while engaging the terrorists with superior firepower both from the air and on the ground.

 Ground troops, supported by the Air Component of Operation Lafiya Dole (OPLD), however, thwarted the attack by the insurgents. 

Similarly, in another encounter troops of Sector 1, OPLD neutralised seven members of the Boko Haram group along road Ngwom - Mafa to Maiduguri on Sunday, April 11.
