See NANS Reaction Over Students' Abduction, Education Under Attack, Says Asefon

THE National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has condemned the abduction of students at the Government Science Secondary School, Kankara in Katsina State by bandits.

In a statement signed by Comrade Asefon Sunday, Revolutionary NANS PRESIDENT on Saturday, considered this attack as an attack on education and an attempt by cowards to possess fear in the mind of Nigerian students seeking education in the state.

Asefon therefore charged security agencies to live up to expectations by ensuring the rescue of abducted students and unite them with their families.

The President noted that the nation cannot afford a repeat of Chibok and Dapchi experience at this point in time. The security agencies must move swiftly to ensure that the students are rescued without any further delay.

While this abduction shouldn't have happened in the first place, it is imperative that security agencies must deploy all their available resources towards the rescue and reuniting of the abducted students with their families.

Also he called on the federal government to ensure that students anywhere in the country feel secured going to school, therefore terrorism must not be allowed to become another impediment to education.

The security of life and properties is the fundamental function of government and as such must be taken seriously. No Nigerian deserve to live in fear of banditry and terrorism. The government as a matter or urgency must do everything needed to ensure Nigerians feel secured, Asefon said

While advising the government of Katsina State to consider closing down of schools in the state in the interim to strategize within days on security measure to be put in place to ensure that students lives are not in danger, we call on government in the North East to be proactive on the issue of students security.

Asefon also called on the federal government to convey National Security Conference with the aim of exploring diverse human capital across the country towards solving our multifaceted security crises in the nation. We hope that the security conference will tap into our best brains and security stakeholders towards providing fresh ideas to the government on the fight against insecurity in the country.

NANS will not fold its arms and watch our students arbitrarily kidnapped and bully out of school by coward terrorists. We believe the next 72hrs is critical and the rescue of the students must be achieved within this time.

Asefon urged the security agencies to do all that is needed to ensure our students are back safely, this is a struggle we must win, Aluta Continua! Victoria Ascerta, the statement reads.
