Igbomina Day: Ex-IGP, Tafa Balogun Bags Chieftaincy Title As Oyetola Propagates Peace In Osun (photos)

THE former Nigerian Police IG, Tafa Adebayo Balogun was honored with a chieftaincy title of Oluomo of Igbomina land.


Tafa Balogun, who became inspector general of police in March, 2002.


He was honored with the new title during the first united Asepo Omo Igbomina day and the launching of one billion naira fundraising, held at Ila community education centre, Idi Ogbagbara Kajola, Ajaba Road Ila-Orangun, Osun state on 21st Saturday November, 2020 amidst funfair in an event that had worthy sons and daughters of the community and Osun state as well with four high ranking Monarchs who came as members of Igbomina tribe.


They are; Oluko of Ajasa, Elese Igbaja, Olomu of Omu aran and Olusin of Ikanu Isin.


Speaking at the event, the Chief host and Orangun of Ila, Oba Wahab Adedokun, who described the Igbominas as a strong tribe among the Yoruba nation, said the event was to bring together sons and daughters of Igbomina.


On his part, commissioner for regional integration and special duties, Olalekan Badmus, disclosed governor Adegboyega Oyetola's plans on agriculture, infrastructure, and mining, which he said will be of advantage to the people of igbomina.



Commissioner Badmus narrated that Osun state Governor, called on the residents to maintain peace and work together, noting that the community is part of the 30-30 tourism project and many others.


Tafa Balogun, who was represented by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Goke Fayoade, who described his boss, as a true son of the soil who has secured employments to the sons & daughters of the community, facilitated the establishment of Police training school in Ila Orangun community and it was successful. 


Fayoade, who was the former ADC to a former Osun state governor on behalf of, Tafa Balogun, also vowed to use his experience in securing people of Igbomina land and with this recognition of Chieftaincy, he has been implored to do more and bring more developments to the town



Ex-IGP speaking with Newsmen at the palace of Orangun of Ila, of his chieftaincy title unanimously conferred on him by Igbomina monarchs as Oluomo of Igbomina land, boasted that he will use his wealth of experience as an ex-police officer to secure the people of the region noting that he will extend it to the area of development, connection and economy.


“I will use my wealth of experience for the security of Igbomina people. I will not only restrict myself to the area of security but also in the area of economic, connections, development, infrastructure and all my wherewithal to help Igbomina in all respect by influencing good things to the communities.”


"He encouraged the sons & daughters at diaspora and other States to come home in the capacity they found themselves and build the community for a greater development "


VAM News correspondent gathered that the Asepo Omo Igbomina day celebration witnessed the largest congregation of all members of the socio-cultural group, Monarchs, Dr Deji Adeleke of Adeleke University, Ede and across Kwara, Osun and Oyo States.


The Igbomina land comprises of many towns both in Osun and Kwara, which Ila is the headquarters of the community.


Also, many received awards in honor of the day, one of the awardees who spoke to VAM News, Professor Abayomi Omoniyi Olagunju from Bio-Chemistry department of Lagos state university and the Dean of post graduate study.


In his word, "I have received several awards as a student, lecturer but this is the first time I will be recognizing in my country home, I appreciate the organizer of this event


Prof. Olagunju called on the yearly celebration of the Asepo Omo Igbomina day 


He encouraged the sons & daughters to look back and identify with the community. 


Also, Hon. Olufemi Fakeye, Member House of Representatives, representing Ila federal constituency at the National Assembly opened the floor of donation with N3million to the one billion naira fundraising and many others raised funds to support the project. 


Also relating the germane part of funfair of the event to Journalists, Obalofin Of Ila Orangun, Chief Douglas Adeyinka Oyinlola spoke on the history of Orangun, ede empire and Yoruba land.


Also, the Orangun of Ila, Oba Adedotun stressed that unity of Igbomina is essential at the point where development must be taken seriously. “We have Igbomina communities in Osun, Kwara and Ekiti and we see the need to come together and have a formidable force to develop our communities one way or the other. This programme is a continuous one for the development of the people and these communities.”


The Osun state Regional Integration and Special Duties commissioner, Hon Olalekan Badmus in his address said the coming together of Igbomina people is a spectacular one and charge other ethnic groups in Yoruba land to continue to seize opportunities to foster mutual understanding between themselves noting that it will ensue development at all levels.
