The leading presidential candidate of the National association of Nigerian students (NANS), Comrade Sunday Asefon has Commended the Lagos state government under the adminstration of his Excellency Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his intervention on reopening of the state's tertiary institutions.

This was contained in a letter sent to VOICE AIR MEDIA.

It reads;

Please permit to convey to you my best regards and best wishes from members of my team and the entire Nigerian students.

The attention of the Symbol of New NANS team, the umbrella body of my campaign structure for the apex office of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in the forthcoming convention has been drawn to the unprecedented re-opening of tertiary institution in Lagos State under your leadership.

This planned reopening of tertiary institutions in the state is yet another pacesetting achievement of your government in reaction to the emergencies occasioned by Covid19 pandemic. It is not an argument lost that Lagos State distinguished itself by providing leadership beyond rhetoric both in policies and programmes, pre and post lockdown. The responsible leadership of Lagos State in the early days of the pandemic is perhaps the reason why Nigeria is not completely devastated from the ugly horror of this virus today.

It is in recognition of  this unique leadership and efforts, that I and my team has decided to place on record our commendation of the government and people of Lagos under the exemplary leadership of His Excellency, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and all other members of his cabinet for raising the bar of leadership and coming through when the nation is in desperate need of leaders during the initial days and the peak of the Covid19 pandemic.

Again the planned reopening of tertiary institution is yet another strategic and commendable effort of government to ensure that normalcy return as Lagos has started to flatten the curve of the pandemic. This is particularly appreciated by us as our students across the tertiary institutions in Lagos can safely return to classroom while observing every recommendation of health professionals.

This development is timely as the long stay at home has impacted our students negatively and there can’t be a better time than now to reopen the schools.

It is our hope that other states of the federation can borrow ideas from Lagos on the management of this pandemic even at this time and also learn how to safely reopen tertiary institutions all over the country.

On behalf of my team, I and the entire students of tertiary institutions in Lagos and by extension Nigeria, we wish to specially commend the Lagos State Government for its leadership, crises management and exploit especially the safe reopening of tertiary institutions.

I look forward to partnering with Lagos State to further ensure the education sector is improved and our tertiary institutions becomes the best as I seek to win the apex seat of our association in the fourth coming NANS Convention.

Please accept the assurance of my best regards and cooperation always.

Comrade Asefon Sunday
NANS Presidential Hopeful.
